Warning Signs that Your Child May Have Behavioral Issues
Ventura, CA parents should talk to a pediatrician if they notice any of the following warning signs:
Difficulty Managing Emotions
Temper tantrums are not uncommon in preschool children. But as your child gets older, they should be able to handle their feelings in a socially acceptable way. If your child is having difficulty controlling disappointment, frustration, or anger in a manner that is appropriate for their age, they may have an underlying behavioral problem.
Impulse Control Issues
Signs of poor impulse control include aggression in school, yelling at teachers, and pushing to the front of the line. You can help your child with impulse control by suggesting alternative behaviors and encouraging mindfulness.
Difficulty in School
If your child’s behavior is hurting her school life, this should not be ignored. Issues such as getting into fights in class, getting sent out of class, or being suspended can be signs of an underlying behavioral problem.
Difficulty with Social Interaction
It’s quite normal for children to have occasional disagreements with their peers, but if your child’s behavior is interfering with social interaction, this needs to be addressed, particularly if her behavior is making it difficult for her to make friends.
If at any time, your child self-harms or talks about suicide you should talk to a mental health professional to have your child evaluated before she causes serious self-injury.
